CAMPUS DE LES ARTS
Campus de les Arts [Campus of the Arts] began in 2019 as a project uniting the nineteen universities and centres for higher education in the arts in Catalonia, coordinated of the University of Barcelona. These centres currently have some 8000 students, and offer degrees and graduate studies in the fields of Fine Arts, Design, Music, Theatre, Dance, Cinema and Conservation and Restoration.
Campus de les Arts seeks to share emerging resources and develop new activities amongst all participating universities and educational institutions, with the goal of addressing some of the main challenges faced by the system of higher education in the arts in Catalonia. In particular, and with an approach that is complementary and interdisciplinary, it works for significant growth in graduate studies and artistic research, while also focusing on knowledge transfer and the expansion and specialisation of training for professors dedicated to artistic education.
In developing these projects, Campus de les Arts plans to have available 6800 m2 at the historic Can Ricart industrial heritage site, found in the Barcelona cultural cluster known as District 22@. In the meantime, Campus de les Arts organises encounters and runs internal commissions with member participation, as well as seminars and conferences open to the academic and professional community. The goal of this activity is to advance in the design of its proposals and carry out planned activities. In this regard, highlights of Campus de les Arts’ activity include a document on artistic research, drafted in 2020, and the international conference “INDISCIPLINES”, dedicated to practice-based artistic research, which took place in Barcelona in November 2019.
