CALL

Format of Presentations and Sessions

Papers and proposals for presentations have the option of using the habitual format of a conference participation or be articulated with a mind to the form legitimately corresponding to the creative practice in play. This latter could give rise to a hybrid or combined format, or just as well a presentation with performative, narrative, stages, exhibited, collective, qualitative or space-time altered characteristics, amongst others, in consonance with the author’s criteria.

All papers and proposals will be presented in sessions of 3-4 presentations of a maximum length of 20 minutes each. They can be presented by individuals or by groups and collectives.

Proposals will be accepted in English, Catalan and Spanish.

Together with in-person presentations, the conference features a call for posters.

The conference will be complemented by the presence of keynote speakers,  expressly invited by the organisation.

In the afternoon-evening of 29 November, in a programme not included in this academic call, a selection of proposals of practice-based research chosen specifically from the participating centres in Campus de les Arts will be presented at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.

Presentation of proposals

All proposals will undergo double-blind review, and the scientific committee will make the final selection. The deadline for reception of proposals is 15 July 2019. The decision of the scientific committee will be communicated from 1-15 August 2019.

All proposals for papers, presentations and posters will be presented in the form of abstracts, drafted in any of the conference languages (English, Spanish, Catalan).

Participation is limited to a single presentation per person, whether as a paper, intervention o poster. Exceptions will be allowed solely in the case of a collaborative participation with another participant.

The call is open to the free interpretation of the format and character of oral presentations as habitually conceived for academic conferences, to encourage the participation of presentations that demonstrate or express practice-based artistic research.

1.- Presentation of papers approximating the format of a standard oral academic presentation

a- All abstracts must be sent in the form of a Microsoft Word document (.doc, .docx).

b- Two different documents must be sent:

i- An abstract of no more than 500 words including the name and affiliation of the author, with keywords, and an additional bibliography of a maximum 30 citations, along with a biographical note of no more than 100 words.

The abstract should indicate which of the 8 conference themes the paper addresses.

ii- aAcopy of the previous document without the author’s name, affiliation or biographical note.

2.- Presentations conceived beyond the conventional format of academic conferences, seeking to visualise, stage or show, for example, arts research practice through their communicative form

a- This variation requires an oral or textual reflection at some point during the presentation, including during the introduction or in following debate, to complement content.

b- All abstracts must be sent in the form of a Microsoft Word document (.doc, .docx).

i- Optionally and in complement to the proposal, a single audio, visual and/or audio-visual file may be sent, with fixed or moving images, to support the proposal, in any habitual digital format.

c- Three different documents must be sent:

i- An abstract of no more than 500 words including the name and affiliation of the author, with keywords, and an additional bibliography of a maximum 30 citations, along with a biographical note of no more than 100 words.

The abstract should indicate which of the 8 conference themes the paper addresses.

ii- A copy of the previous document without the author’s name, affiliation or biographical note.

iii- A technical document of no more than a single page indicating all logistical, technical and specific information, with any corresponding budgetary consideration, to develop the presentation in a way that is adequate in the context of the conference. The organisation will evaluate the viability of all proposals, and reserves the right to not select a proposal for technical, practical and/or budgetary reasons.

3.- Presentation of Posters

a- Posters will be accepted in vertical in DIN A1 size (59.4 x 84.1 cm), as a standard reference. The poster can include text, photography, graphic elements and other textual and visual features.

Proposals will also be accepted that choose to vary the size, format, concept and/or approach of the habitual academic poster as conceived for conferences, and which deal with the poster as a designed object and vehicle for public communication.

i- Authors of posters are required to attend the conference with two (2) copies of the selected poster, duly designed and printed, for its exhibition in the two conference venues. Authors will be advised of the time and place for montage of posters.

ii- Poster authors will be required to be present during the conference for the presentation of the poster, in a dedicated session, either at the University of Barcelona or the ESMUC. Explanations will last a maximum 5 minutes.

iii- If the poster proposal chooses to move outside of the indicated habitual format or concept, in any justifiable way, a reasoned explanation of no more than 100 words must be presented with the corresponding technical considerations, apart from the abstract.

b- All abstracts must be sent in the form of a Microsoft Word document (.doc, .docx).

c- Two different documents must be sent:

i- An abstract of no more than 300 words including the name and affiliation of the author, with keywords, and an additional bibliography of a maximum 20 citations, along with a biographical note of no more than 50 words.
