HISTORY

The Campus de les Arts project began in 2018 as an initiative of the University of Barcelona (UB), following on the proposal by the Catalan arts council CoNCA (Consell Nacional per a la Cultura i les Arts). This proposal was laid out in the report “L’educació superior en l’àmbit artístic a Catalunya. Estudi i proposta d’organització – 2018” [Higher Education in the Arts in Catalonia: A Study and Proposal of Organisation— 2018].

Once the basic parameters of the project had been defined (objectives, future location at Can Ricart, participation of the public administrations financing, calendar) and presented to all nineteen institutions dedicated to higher and university education in the arts in Catalonia, in early 2019 a Working Group was constituted to move forward on the Campus de les Arts at Can Ricart proposal. This group has counted on representation from all nineteen institutions, together with the participation of CoNCA and HANGAR, Visual Arts Research and Production Centre. The project is coordinated by the University of Barcelona.

Along with carrying out tasks related to the design and initiative of the project, the Working Group has sought to carry out activities that might begin to develop the goals the project has set out. Three activities particularly stand out:

  • 3/5/2019 A Research Encounter open to all artistic researchers affiliated with institutions and universities dedicated to degree-granting artistic education in Catalonia

  • 28-30/11/2019 INDISCIPLINES “Conference on Research in Arts Practice”

  • 2020 Drafting and approval of the document “Artistic Research

In 2021 the activity of Campus de les Arts was channelled through three Study Commissions, respectively created for the following aims: to explore possible pilot projects in interdisciplinary artistic research; to draft a document of reference on the subject of the training and education of faculty dedicated to artistic education; to share experiences related to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and as a possible practice beyond its immediate impact.

Starting in 2021, the Campus de les Arts project has been joined by the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).
